Weston developed a data management system for a confidential oil and gas client seeking baseline characterization of the groundwater in advance of drilling new oil and gas wells over a 10-year period. To address landowner concerns over water quality, we obtained ROEs for 700+ properties, evaluated 1,900 oil and gas wells, and collected 1,500 baseline groundwater samples. To manage the data, Weston’s Enterprise Visualization and Analytics team developed a proprietary web-based Enterprise Geospatial Portal called Shalefast Viewer. Shalefast Viewer is a repository to view, manage, analyze, and report all high-quality GIS, sampling and analytical data, documentation, and communication records. It has brought innovation and efficiency to the project by centralizing a decade of baseline sampling data, allowing the client to quickly pull data for any given well and assure concerned landowners that drilling activities have not impacted groundwater. Additionally, Weston has regularly updated the technology, which is currently operating on the most up-to-date program, JavaScript API Viewer. Lastly, in the event that a new well is proposed, we access Shale Fast Viewer to determine if there is useable historical data from a well that is in proximity to the proposed well. By eliminating the need to duplicate sampling, Weston saves the client time and money.
