Remedial Action within Tobyhanna State Park and State Game Lands

Weston successfully performed a CERCLA Remedial Action at seven munitions response sites at a former artillery range at the Tobyhanna formerly used defense site. Our project team successfully conducted a subsurface removal across 1,999 acres at this high-profile FUDS, allowing safe use of the property by recreational visitors and park/game land staff. Weston prepared all project plans; performed vegetation removal; executed the subsurface removal to instrument detection depth up to 3 ft below ground surface removing 2,923 unexploded ordnance items and 545,402 lbs. of material documented as safe (MDAS); and inspected and certified all MPPEH/MD. Weston worked 150,540 hours in the field without a munitions-related lost time incident including all fieldwork, while minimizing impact to the surrounding environment. We successfully led community outreach activities, including stakeholder meetings and media day/open houses and completed this work in the State Park and Game Lands with no impacts to recreational users.
