PFAS in Focus: A Year in Review - Unraveling the Latest Developments and Updates

Description

This webinar will provide a comprehensive review of significant news and updates concerning per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) over the past year. It will delve into the ongoing ramifications to industry, government, and the public. Additionally, the webinar will also discuss the future of PFAS and what is coming next in this field. Join us to stay informed and prepared for the evolving landscape of PFAS.

Key topics will include:

  • Untangling Evolving Definitions: We will explore the varying definitions of PFAS, diving into why different naming structures definitions affect the number of PFAS, in addition to the changes and updates in the regulations.
  • Cutting-edge Scientific Advancements: We will provide insights into diverse methodologies employed for analyzing, concentrating, and destroying PFAS. This will serve to deepen your comprehension of this complex chemistry and the various analytical techniques employed in laboratories.
  • Demystifying the Regulatory Setting: We will address the current federal and state regulations surrounding PFAS, equipping you with the knowledge to effectively strategize and navigate regulatory compliance.

Whether you’re a seasoned professional, new to the field, or just trying to get a better
understanding of PFAS in general, this webinar will equip you with knowledge and

She has 19 years’ experience in site investigation, characterization (remedial investigations/feasibility studies), and remediation, Superfund project management, and long-term monitoring programs. She focuses primarily on chlorinated solvents and emergent and recalcitrant compounds including PFAS and 1,4 dioxane. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Geology from the University of Northern Colorado and a Master of Science in Geology and Geophysics from Boston College.
  • Lisa is an active, contributing member of the Interstate Technology and Regulatory Council’s PFAS Team and co-leads updates to the PFAS Water and Soils Values tables. As an active member of the Society of American Military Engineers Environmental Community of Interest, she is the Project Manager of the PFAS Industry-Government Engagement project titled “Targeted Training for Operational Entities.” Lisa delivers PFAS presentations for clients and at conferences across the country.
  • Nasim Pica, PhD, serves as a Weston Senior Engineering Professional. She has technical expertise in emerging contaminants in addition to experience and leadership in civil and environmental engineering. Nasim has led many successful projects across both industrial and federal markets that included managing a wide variety of contaminants of concern from chlorinated solvents to novel contaminants such as SARS-COV19, 1,4-dioxane, and PFAS. Her research work has included leading a multidisciplinary team funded by the National Science Foundation and DoD, which used Suspect and Nontargeted Screening with Unrivaled Mass Resolving Power and Accuracy which led to the discovery of more than 130 novel PFAS in AFFF samples. Nasim holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, an MSc from Sharif University of Technology, and PhD in Environmental Engineering from Colorado State University.
