Bering-Weston JV, LLC Providing Emergency Water Pre-Treatment Services for Hurricane Helene Aftermath in North Carolina

West Chester, PA (October 9, 2025)— Weston Solutions, Inc. (Weston), in partnership with Bering Straits Global Innovations (BSGI), is delivering emergency water pre-treatment services to provide relief to the Asheville, NC, community. These services are being provided through a treatment plant constructed between November 18, 2024, and January 23, 2025, in direct response to hurricane damage.

The initiative is aligned with the FEMA federal mission and is administered by the United States Army Corps of Engineers Wilmington District under Emergency Support Function 3. The joint venture, Bering-Weston JV, LLC, is an SBA-certified 8(a) Small Disadvantaged Business operating as a mentor protégé JV. Bering-Weston JV, LLC is dedicated to delivering high-quality design-build and construction services in secure and sensitive environments.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, western North Carolina faced a severe crisis. The hurricane caused extensive damage to municipal water treatment plants, leading to a critical shortage of potable water. To address this urgent issue, Bering-Weston JV, LLC was contracted to design and construct a system to provide essential water pre-treatment services at Bee Tree Reservoir, which supplies influent water to the William Debruhl Water Treatment Plant (WTP), a crucial component of the Asheville, NC potable water system.

Mudslides due to the hurricane caused water within the reservoir to become highly turbid. The significant increase in suspended particles made the water very cloudy or opaque, rendering it noncompliant with clean drinking water standards. To rapidly restore the water to safe, potable standards, Bering-Weston JV, LLC quickly completed the design (including plans and specifications) in compliance with federal, state, and local requirements for a Mobile Turbidity Reduction System.

Bering-Weston JV, LLC managed the project through a turnkey process covering design, construction and operations phases. The turnkey approach allowed for expedited project execution and included site assessments, stormwater controls, civil construction work, and the installation of critical components such as dissolved air flotation units, high-density polyethylene pipes, chemical feed systems, diesel-powered pumps, and multimedia filters.

The project has successfully restored the community’s access to safe drinking water, ensuring the health and well-being of residents and providing essential services during critical times. Initiated under a United States Army Corps of Engineers contract, operations are continuing with a long-term commitment and the flexibility to serve the community’s needs well into the future.
