Fraud Blocker USCG Kodiak Dock EA - Weston Solutions

USCG Kodiak Dock EA

The United States Coast Guard (USCG) makes available this Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) for the proposed in-water improvements necessary to support the homeporting of Fast Response Cutters (FRCs) and Offshore Patrol Cutters (OPCs) at USCG Base Kodiak (Proposed Action) for public review and comment. This Draft EA has been prepared in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and evaluates potential environmental impacts resulting from the Proposed Action.

The purpose of the Proposed Action is to homeport two FRCs and two OPCs in the District 17 Area of Responsibility (AoR) and to provide adequate shoreside and mooring facilities. The shoreside facilities and mooring infrastructure would be capable of supporting an additional FRC (proposed to be homeported in Seward, AK after temporary homeporting at Base Kodiak) during periods of major maintenance. The Proposed Action is needed to replace and enhance the mission support previously provided by the USCG Cutters Alex Haley and Douglas Munro in the District 17 AoR to allow USCG to continue fulfilling its mission.

The Draft EA presents the purpose and need for the action, the Proposed Action and alternatives, a description of the affected environment, and an analysis of environmental consequences. The Draft EA also documents cumulative impacts from projects which are proposed, under construction, recently completed, or anticipated to be implemented in the near future. These projects may include USCG and non-USCG projects in or near the project area.
