Environmental Permitting & Compliance
Proven Experience
WESTON has provided Environmental Permitting & Compliance
services for many strategic clients.
For a Confidential Automotive Client,
WESTON provided a full-range of environmental services necessary
for the siting, construction, and operation of a major state-of-the-art
automobile manufacturing facility. This included developing a waste
minimization program to reduce volume and minimize hazardous characteristics
of all plant waste streams. The program provided procedures for
waste stream inventorying, prioritization based on toxicity and
volume, waste minimization evaluation, and implementation.
For a Power Company, WESTON
provided services related to property development and preliminary
site civil engineering planning for two parcels of property located
in northeastern Illinois.
For an Automotive Company,
WESTON is supporting plant construction, renovation, and
expansion. Our team provides fast-track permitting support to protect
the construction critical path schedule; early development of a
regulatory strategy to prevent false starts, and therefore cost
inefficiencies, and a corrective action approach that allows uninterrupted
production and revenue generating capacity.
For SkyChefs, WESTON surveyed,
designed, and conducted removal oversight of asbestos at their operations
at JFK and Chicago O'Hare Airports in a phased, modular approach
to allow continued operations of their facilities while complying
with regulations. The approach saved SkyChefs from both the headache
of operating offsite during abatement as well as the cost of relocating
operations to facilities equipped to maintain production. Working
around the clock, the areas were abated in record time and returned
to full operation faster than planned.
For the United States Postal Service
(USPS), WESTON surveyed over 800 facilities for asbestos
and lead-based paint in order to comply with OSHA and NESHAP regulations.
We also worked with national and regional USPS task forces to develop
a $200 million nationwide asbestos and lead-based paint management
program, drafted implementation policies, assisted with the development
of standard protocols, and prepared standard Statements of Work
(SOWs) for assessments, surveys, and abatement. The SOWs were used
for issuing IDQs on a state-by-state basis for abatement, with potential
savings of $17 million compared to the conventional A&E contracting
approach.
For a Confidential Manufacturing Client,
WESTON assisted in developing an environmental early warning system
to alert staff involved in product development that a product design
or formulation being considered may be unmarketable in certain parts
of the world due to regulatory restrictions. The results are reduced
product development costs on a product that cannot be brought to
market due to environmental restrictions.
