Weston Solutions, Inc. Selected for Water Security Assessment Training
WESTON's training and assessment activities ensure the security of the nation's drinking water supply.
WESTON’s Homeland Defense strategic alliance with national security leader USIS has been selected to provide national training in the security evaluation and protection of water systems.
WESTON has been selected to attend a 4-day train-the-trainer program at the Sandia National Laboratories facility in Albuquerque, NM, based on its experience and qualifications demonstrated during the post-9/11 response activities, homeland security business line, and extensive historical concentration in the design, construction, and operation of water and wastewater facilities. Competition for the 64 available training slots was intense, with WESTON being awarded four positions. The program will certify WESTON to present the Risk Assessment Methodology for Water (Utilities) (RAM-W) course, which was developed by Sandia National Laboratories and the American Water Works Association (AWWA) Research Foundation, in conjunction with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
The assessment technique associated with this course was developed in response to ever-growing concerns over the security and vulnerability of the nation’s drinking water supplies to terrorist attacks. Proposed federal legislation would require assessment and security enhancements, while also offering federal grants for cost recovery purposes.
WESTON will be certified to provide Homeland Defense and Counterterrorism planning and preparedness training to interested facilities, municipalities, and agencies at water and wastewater facilities across the country. WESTON currently offers Homeland Security vulnerability assessment planning and consulting to its strategic clients worldwide. We are also positioned to assist water utilities in engineering/construction improvements and to obtain grants from the federal government and from state governments. This training is the latest enhancement to WESTON’s Homeland Security and Counterterrorism services.
