WESTON Designs Green Building at Fort Hood
WESTON designed a new LEED® Silver-Rated Environmental Office Building to be located on the main cantonment of the Fort Hood Army Post.
Eye on Sustainability
- The dropped linear fluorescent interior lighting
is zone controlled to reduce energy consumption. Low ambient
artificial light levels, with available task lighting, reduces
the overall power budget.
- The landscape design incorporates native
drought-tolerant species and high-albedo materials to reduce
the heat island affect associated with asphalt paving.
- In parametrical terms, the building
will use 20% less energy than a typical office building of the
same size designed according to ASHRAE standards.
Features
- 5,000-square-foot structure.
- Public works building to include offices,
a conference room, break room, and restrooms; architectural
theme will be similar to adjacent buildings.
Performance Milestones
- Conducting a design charrette with facility
personnel to establish the program requirements and design parameters.
- Completing a topographical survey and
geotechnical investigation of the sited area.
- Preparing a concept design (35%)
with renderings and a Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) cost estimate.
- Preparing
65%, 95%, and 100% design documents incorporating review comments.
- Preparing
detailed quantity and cost estimates, based on both 2006 RS
Means and local market research.
