Strategic Sustainability Planning & Support for the Nation's Army Medical Facilities

Client/Location: U.S. Army Medical Command (MEDCOM)/ Numerous Army hospitals

MEDCOM knows that increased sustainability of its operations offers a myriad of benefits, including improved readiness, increased quality of life for employees and patients, and reduced operating costs. WESTON's mission was to develop a Healthcare Sustainability Strategic Plan and then guide implementation of sustainable operations for U.S. Army hospitals worldwide.

The Army MedCom is implementing our Strategic Sustainability Plan.

  • We used a phased approach to developing and implementing strategic sustainability planning at the Headquarters and hospital level. This planning allows MEDCOM to comply with EO 13514, the DoD Strategic Sustainability Performance Plan, and the Army Sustainability Campaign Plan.

  • WESTON's Web-based data tool maximizes sustainability data capture while minimizing disruption to MEDCOM personnel.

  • After analyzing the baseline sustainability data, WESTON developed a sustainability strategy geared to specific metrics that aligned with EO, DoD and Army sustainability goals. The sustainability strategy is broken down into short-, medium-, and long-term goals.

WESTON is currently visiting every Army hospital to stand up sustainability teams and help these teams implement the Healthcare Sustainability Strategic Plan at their level.
