GreenGrid® Experience

ABC Supply Company, Inc. (ABC Supply) and Weston Solutions, Inc. (WESTON®) developed the unique GreenGrid® roofing system to boost your building’s environmental and economic performance. WESTON is an established provider of infrastructure redevelopment services worldwide with an emphasis on creating lasting economic solutions for its clients. Government incentives are given to companies who use Green Roofs.

Green Roofs reduce energy costs, extend roof life, manage storm water, insulate sounds, and allow access to underlying roof.

Milwaukee Housing Authority - Highland Gardens. man on greengrid roof photoThe Milwaukee Housing Authority installed a 20,032-ft2 GreenGrid® Green Roof System, believed to be the largest on any residential development in the nation, on its new Highland Gardens Housing Project. The  roof, containing a mixture of sedum types, will aid in on-site stormwater management and add value to both the building and the environment.

Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD). The Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Metropolitan Sewerage District greengrid roof photo(MMSD) selected the GreenGrid® Green Roof System for its corporate headquarters building in downtown Milwaukee because of its easy installation, preplanted modules, use of recycled materials, and the ability to adjust and rearrange the system as needed. With the growing interest in Green Roofs throughout the U.S., MMSD decided it would install the GreenGrid® system and determine reductions in stormwater runoff from the part of its roof now covered with Green Roof compared to the portion of its roof left bare as the “reference roof.” The roof design incorporates a unique blend of grasses and forbs native to Wisconsin dry prairies and dry bluffs along the Mississippi River, giving the urban site the look of a prairie.

City of Chicago – Four Fire Stations. WESTON designed and installed Green Roofs on four City of Chicago Fire Stations (Engine Company Nos. 13, 46, 57, and 98) to combat Chicago’s urban heat island effect. For Engine Company No. 98, a site on the National Register of Historic Places, WESTON used 1,056 ft2 of GreenGrid® modules. A total of 2,072 ft2 of GreenGrid® modules were used for Engine Company No. 13, located in the Chicago Loop, and 3,124 ft2 of GreenGrid® modules were used for Engine Company 46, on Chicago’s south side. WESTON used both 4-inch and 8-inch GreenGrid® systems at Engine Company No. 57 on Chicago’s near Westside.
