Airports & Aviation
Proven Experience
Airports and aviation-related businesses are complex and challenging facilities to manage in today’s fast-paced and competitive climate. As we have done at hundreds of airports and Air Force bases, WESTON can provide services to help your business surpass the competition.
WESTON’s Airports & Aviation projects have ranged from stormwater concerns, hazardous waste assessment and cleanup, environmental planning, industrial hygiene, noise monitoring, preservation of natural resources, and air quality monitoring.
For Baltimore/Washington International (BWI), WESTON developed standard operating procedures for hazardous waste management, and delivered hazardous waste and pollution prevention training to maintenance employees. WESTON also prepared a comprehensive update to the Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan and worked with tenant pollution prevention teams to ensure implementation of the plan. In addition, WESTON developed a Web-based geographic information system that links areas of environmental concern to relevant data tables, facilitating maintenance of stormwater management structures and helping to ensure NPDES permit compliance.
At Chicago O'Hare (ORD) and Midway (MDW),WESTON has performed comprehensive hazardousmaterials and waste inventories and has conducted a training needs inventory aimed at accident prevention.
For SkyChefs, WESTON saved the company relocation costs during asbestos abatement at JFK and ORD. WESTON used a phased approach for the abatement, which allowed uninterrupted operation of SkyChefs' facilities. WESTON abated the areas in record time, returning the facilities to full operation much quicker than anticipated.
At the FAA's Michael Monroney Aeronautical Center in Oklahoma City, WESTON is evaluating current and past practices in an effort to reduce the number of airports added to the NPL. In support of this effort, we used our computerized Technical Data Management System to collect and record the data obtained from more than 775 samples and then linked that data to a GIS for efficient data management and analysis.
For the City and County of Denver (CCoD), Stapleton International Airport (SIA), WESTON provides full environmental support services for CCoD for the redevelopment of SIA. Since 1992, WESTON has performed site assessments, remediation, pilot testing, remedial design, regulatory negotiation and reporting, construction, operation and maintenance, asbestos management, waste management, emergency response, litigation support, cost estimating, scheduling, demolition support and oversight, data management, GIS, and Phase I activities.
WESTON maintains a GIS-compatible database containing all analytical data collected at the site to assist in assessment and remediation. Using GIS, WESTON produces maps for CCoD, potential property buyers, and tenants illustrating contaminant concentrations and sitewide hydrogeologic data. GIS is also used to show the locations of contaminant plumes relative to proposed demolition and infrastructure development.
At Dover AFB, Delaware, WESTON assessed alternatives and made recommendations for reducing air emissions. To develop the recommendations, we conducted a basewide emission inventory for all stationary and mobile sources, assessing the types and quantities of air pollutants emitted. We also reviewed and evaluated the emissions in light of existing and projected federal and Delaware state air pollution regulations for applicability to individual emissions sources and to the base as a whole.
