Electric & Gas Utilities
Proven Experience
Seaholm Power Plant in Austin, Texas
– transformed from an inactive power generation facility to a clean,
usable site. WESTON provided Phase I environmental assessment,
Phase II engineering planning activities, and Phase III remediation
and equipment dismantling services allowing this inactive power
plant to be redeveloped into a tax- and revenue-generating, public
use facility that fits in with the surrounding recreational area
and has become the most popular recreational park in the City's
downtown area.
Florida Power & Light saves over
$600K in disposal costs on a remedial assessment, demolition, and
site restoration project. As the result of a fire, a substation
and former power generating facility was contaminated with PCBs
and dioxins/furans. Due to the location of the building and activities
on the site, strict controls, sequencing, and coordination were necessary.
WESTON managed and implemented preliminary remedial assessment,
design and site restoration, and decontamination efforts. Value
engineering produced savings of $600K by decontaminating and reusing
some materials rather than having to dispose of the material off-site.
