EPA
Proven Experience
WESTON has extensive experience initiating
innovative field data collection and management techniques and has
developed improved technologies for EPA site investigations and
remedial actions. WESTON also prepares for and responds to emergency
response actions requiring EPA support.
Region
1:
WESTON provided critical preparation support before, and standby
and investigation support during the Democratic National Convention
in Boston. WESTON personnel provided 24/7 support during the event,
including conducting air monitoring and operating EPA's Mobile Command
Post.
Region 2: For over 20 years, WESTON has provided support to EPA's Region II under three former Technical Assistance Team Contracts and the initial Superfund Technical Assessment Response Team Contract. WESTON currently provides consistent advisory and assistance services to the Region under the Removal Support Team (RST) Contract within the States of New Jersey and New York, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
RST conducts removal assessments, emergency responses, and removal actions, and participates in a variety of CEPP activities in support of the Region's responsibilities under the national response system. RST maintains expertise in air monitoring, multi-media sampling, health and safety management, field screening analysis and the characterization of hazardous materials, subsurface investigation, and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) support. All field personnel are experienced working in Level B and C PPE. RST also maintains a cadre of Level A-trained staff. The Team remains available to Region II 24 hours-a-day, seven days-a-week, with continued capabilities for responding to EPA’s needs.
Region
3: WESTON mobilized over 50 personnel to provide emergency
response anthrax decontamination, sampling, and health and safety
operations to support recovery efforts at nine U.S. Senate facilities
in Washington, DC and Springfield, VA. WESTON worked with multiple
federal agencies and other contractors within the Unified Command
Structure 24/7 to achieve the zero-spore cleanup standard.
Region
4: WESTON helped prepare and participated in a 60-hour
full-scale weapons of mass destruction field exercise in Louisville,
KY.
The exercise involved 650 responders from 70 agencies and organizations,
testing EPA’s capability to coordinate multiple federal agencies
within the structure of the Incident Command System. WESTON provided
40 Level-A Responders and developed a real-time personnel tracking
tool to support this exercise.
Region 5: WESTON worked at
187 sites providing remedial planning, design, and removal action
oversight under the START and ARCS contracts, where we earned "Excellent"
and "Above Average" performance ratings. We also represented
158 clients in negotiating more cost-effective cleanups and ensuring
regulatory compliance.
Region 6: WESTON responded
immediately, providing planning, field recovery, and data management
support for the Space Shuttle Columbia recovery efforts. The shuttle
response was the largest in WESTON’s (and the federal government’s)
history, involving 319 WESTON personnel from 33 offices in 26 states.
WESTON personnel accompanied each recovery team into the field,
often working 18-hour days and 7 days per week, to locate and catalog
shuttle materials.
In May 2003, EPA Headquarters awarded EPA Region 6 the EPA Mason
Hewitt Award for Excellence for the Columbia Shuttle Recovery Field
Data Collection Application. EPA cited WESTON for helping to develop
and implement the application during the response.
Region 8: WESTON has 10 years
of experience developing strong relationships through interactions
on more than 2,000 projects. We received commendations from the
region for establishing a proactive and cooperative working relationship
with regulatory agencies to facilitate timely completion of the
CERCLA process at a Superfund site.
Region 9: For the past 7
years, WESTON has completed PA/SI/HRS scoring at 15 sites and has
provided technical oversight of RI/FS, RD, and RA activities, as
well as field sampling and groundwater modeling and risk assessment
support at CERCLA sites. WESTON has consistently received an “outstanding”
rating for these efforts and is currently under contract for approximately
$750,000 of work at four sites.
Region 10: WESTON installed
an in situ redox manipulation treatment wall to intercept and treat
groundwater contaminated with high levels of hexavalent chromium.
This innovative treatment technology, installed at a federal Superfund
site in southwestern Washington, chemically neutralizes the contaminant,
enabling WESTON to treat approximately 23,000 cubic yards of soil
in place.
