Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory (INEEL) Support

  • WESTON designed and implemented a Remedial Action Plan (RAP) under CERCLA regulations for the removal and disposition of V-Tank wastes and associated equipment at Test Area North located at INEEL. These four tanks are among the first of many contaminated underground storage tanks (USTs) to be remediated at INEEL.

  • At the Standard Waste Box Overpack Project, WESTON provided program evaluation and assisted with procedure review and planning for campaign to overpack 55-gallon drums of TRU waste into standard waste boxes (SWBs). The project included a final pre-audit surveillance of the revised procedures to ensure that they complied with programmatic, safety, quality, and Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) requirements. The run-through observation provided practice for the INEEL staff and identified several problems that were solved before the final WIPP audit. The combination of drums will expedite packaging and shipping of the waste to the WIPP.

  • WESTON prepared TRU Acceptable Knowledge (AK) Summary reports from baseline documentation that will be used to prepare waste stream summary reports, including research of source documents, assigning preliminary hazardous waste numbers, and summarizing radionuclide information. Source information was reviewed and analyzed to identify discrepancies for resolution.
