Engaging Our Employees

WESTON employees are our greatest resource in fulfilling sustainability efforts. Employee education and interaction will help increase WESTON’s sustainable practices, especially in the areas of general/sustainable sites, recycling, reduce/reuse/waste handling, transportation/travel, energy and emissions, materials, resources and procurement, water, and certifications and contacts.

The WESTON Sustainability Action Team (SAT) is an example of a local organized effort to increase awareness and energize sustainability. The SAT was formed to review and promote regional efforts in providing clients and communities an environmentally and economically sustainable future. The team was established by local passionate individuals and has been fully supported by management. The SAT has expanded to include representatives from the entire West Chester campus, and aims to become a resource for the Mid-Atlantic region and West Chester campus to educate and encourage all employees to incorporate sustainability into their actions.

The SAT has contributed to greening WESTON's internal practices through the following activities:

  • Increased awareness of sustainability efforts.
  • Expansion of recycling efforts.
  • Increased priority to implement internal sustainability efforts, for example double-sided copying and switching to low-flow faucets (over 30% water savings!).
  • Creation of an energy model to best determine where to focus upgrades for energy savings.
  • Evaluated a building on the West Chester campus as a candidate to achieve LEED for Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance certification.
  • Implementation of Earth Day activities on campus and participation in local-community Earth Day activities.
  • Completed a corporate greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) inventory for 2007! Our data have been reported to the California Climate Action Registry (CCAR).
