WESTON Recognized by Corps for Superior Safety Performance

WEST CHESTER, PA — February 25, 2008 – On February 6, 2008 Weston Solutions, Inc. (WESTON®) received recognition from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Mississippi Valley Division with their 2007 Regional Contractor Superior Safety Performance Award.

The award recognized WESTON’s exceptional safety record and success at fostering a safety culture for work on the New Orleans pumping project after the unprecedented devastation brought by Hurricane Katrina. The project to increase the existing temporary pumping capacity at the 17th Street and London Avenue Canals in New Orleans was completed on a highly accelerated schedule, in order to have increased capacity on line before the height of hurricane season. WESTON partnered with the USACE to take a Safety Now approach at the construction sites. The result was Zero Lost-Time Incidents over a ten-month period with over 454,000 hours worked on a 24/7 schedule through the heat of the Louisiana summer.

WESTON utilized approximately 500 workers to perform the heavy construction project with multiple cranes in a tight working environment and many times in adverse weather conditions. Working over and underwater performing pile driving, pipe fitting, concrete and grout placement, and work around high voltage electric as well as high pressure hydraulic lines. Detailed electrical and mechanical work required specialized lock out tag/out procedures for multiple energy sources simultaneously. The project complexity and stringent deadlines intensified the need for project safety.

Col. Jeffrey A. Bedey, Commander of the Hurricane Protection Office, commented, “We are proud not only of the accomplishments of your organization, but the commitment to excellence. This award recognizes your organization for its superior attention to detail. The Hurricane Protection Office salutes you for being a leader in safety and a part of this historic endeavor. Your safety record reflects great credit upon your company and is a testimony of Weston Solutions, Inc.'s commitment to the safety and health of its employees and the public."

According to Patrick G. McCann, WESTON President and CEO, "These statistics are incredibly impressive and everyone who worked on this project should be congratulated. In my opinion the key ingredient for this success was the powerful culture of safety created by the leadership at all levels and from all of the organizations involved. I commend all of these leaders for creating a clear vision and motivating everyone to accomplish exceptional results.”

Matthew Beatty, WESTON Vice President and New Orleans Project Manager, stated, "This award is significant in our efforts to show WESTON is a contractor who can deliver the difficult projects safely, that can perform as needed in a time critical situation, and whose people really make a difference. Trust, Performance, and People -- that is WESTON. Being able to reinforce this to USACE, one of our largest clients worldwide, was a terrific opportunity."
