Corps Selects Weston/Bean for Estimated $75 Million Miami River Dredging Contract

WEST CHESTER, PA July 19, 2004 – Weston Solutions, Inc. (WESTON®) and joint venture partner, Bean Environmental LLC (Weston/Bean), announced today an initial $11.8 million contract from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) – Jacksonville District for dredging and sediment disposal on the Miami River.

“The Miami River project epitomizes our approach to the ports and waterways business,” stated Patrick G. McCann, WESTON President and Chief Executive Officer. “By delivering integrated dredging, sediment disposal, and beneficial use solutions, we provide our clients the services necessary to restore assets to full use, making operations more productive, more competitive, and environmentally sound. Our integrated approach will further the economic redevelopment along the river.”

The Weston/Bean team will work together to dredge 721,000 cubic yards of sediment from a 6-mile-long narrow shipping corridor on the Miami River that stretches from the Miami Airport to the Bay of Biscayne. The Miami River navigational channel, which varies in width from 100 to 150 feet, has not been dredged since its inception in 1930.

Sediments have built up, resulting in a shallow channel that impedes navigation traffic. Dredging to a depth of 15 feet will further economic development along the corridor, home to a mix of commercial facilities with working docks, industrial centers, and residential areas. Dredged materials will be dewatered at two sites along the river and then hauled to nearby landfills. The process is environmentally sound and will improve the health of the river and downstream ecosystems.

“We are extremely pleased to further our relationship with the Jacksonville District in support of its critical dredging projects and look forward to working with WESTON to achieve a successful result,” said Ancil Taylor, President of Bean Environmental LLC.
