Dr. Jay Mckendrick. University of Alaska Fairbanks Professor Emeritus, Joins WESTON

CHESTER , PA – September 7, 2006 – Weston
Solutions, Inc. (WESTON®)
announced today that Dr. Jay McKendrick has joined the company
as a Principal Biologist to support and grow its Alaska Operations’ biological
and ecological services.
Dr. McKendrick has 34 years of experience
working in the field of biological sciences and executing land
rehabilitation projects in Alaska. Since retiring as a Professor
of Agronomy with the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 1997,
he has worked as a private consultant specializing in land reclamation
and recovery and soil and vegetation studies. A renowned scientist
in Alaska, Dr. McKendrick has authored over 200 publications,
including reference journals, books, university and industry
publications and reports.
Over the course of his career, Dr. Mckendrick
has conducted biological research projects throughout Alaska
including: Arctic Slope vegetation experiments; soil and vegetation
studies for the Trans Alaska and North West Gas Pipelines; reclamation
of lands damaged by oil spills; tundra rehabilitation research
and recovery; the Bison and Musk Ox range evaluations; coal and placer
mine reclamation; the Susitna Hydroelectric Project; gravel pad revegetation
experiments; and reserve pit closeout revegetation projects.
In addition to his broad knowledge of Alaska’s terrestrial ecosystems
and indigenous plant communities, he specializes in revegetation
and recovery of Arctic Slope tundra and gravel pads.
Dr. Mckendrick
earned his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Agronomy Range Management
and Plant Ecology from Kansas State University, and holds a bachelor’s
degree in soils and a master’s
in range management from the University of Idaho, Moscow. He
is both a Professor of Agronomy Emeritus at the University of
Alaska Fairbanks, and an Affiliate Faculty Member of the University
of Idaho, College of Forestry, Wildlife, & Range Sciences.
In his new role, Dr Mckendrick will work with petroleum industry
throughout Alaska in designing rehabilitation projects for previously
disturbed areas as well as assisting in the design of new development
projects to maximize soil stability and minimize surface impacts
to vegetation.
