WESTON Employees Give Back to Flood-Ravaged Community
OMAHA, Nebraska — September 7, 2011 – A team of approximately 40 employee-owners from Weston Solutions, Inc. (WESTON®) will donate their time and talent today to help clean up the community of Hamburg, IA, after a winter and spring of flooding in the Missouri River basin. The goal is to have Main Street ready for the September 10th Popcorn Day celebration "Standing Together, Standing Strong." Projects include removal of hundreds of sandbags and a dirt berm around buildings, and weed eating, sanding, power washing, and painting of the concession building and bathrooms at the city ball field.
"The Town of Hamburg appreciates WESTON's recognition of the importance of the Popcorn Day celebration to our community," stated Hamburg Mayor Cathy Crain. "WESTON's work today and throughout the summer will help ensure our celebration remains a centerpiece of Hamburg's community identity."
In Omaha for an annual federal planning meeting, WESTON employees from all over the United States are living the company's core value of Making a Difference. They joined local employees to give back to the community that was so supportive when WESTON work crews responded around-the-clock under a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District, contract to repair and build up two miles of levees protecting the town as flood waters threatened to inundate the community.
Participant Timothy Sanford, WESTON Senior Vice President and Army Program Lead commented, "WESTON has been a Rapid Response contractor for the Omaha District for a long time; responding to many critical project needs. None has been more gratifying than helping the people of Hamburg fight the Missouri River floods. We are pleased that we can now Make a Difference by helping them clean up from the floods and get on with life and business."
