Giving Back to Communities the WESTON Way

WEST CHESTER, PA — January 23, 2012 – Companies like Weston Solutions, Inc. (WESTON®) are taking social responsibility and corporate philanthropy to a new level as communities struggle with tightening budgets. It is no longer enough to just write a check. WESTON employees have stepped forward wanting to give back to the communities where they live and work, tapping into their talent and expertise to make a difference. For WESTON, that type of donated, in-kind support means providing much-needed engineering and sustainable support to cities across the country and around the globe.

Many true community partnering stories exist now due to WESTON's commitment to providing expertise, materials and manpower, including:

  • West Whiteland Township, PA, Exton Park revitalization. As part of a 5-year commitment WESTON is providing expertise for a new riparian buffer, walking trails, and habitat restoration. The Township recognized WESTON with its Albert P. Greenleaf award for volunteerism.

  • Hamburg, IA. After performing time-critical levee work during the Missouri River flooding last year, WESTON teams went back to support and clean up the community they worked to protect—volunteers working hand in hand with the local residents to restore their flood impacted community.

  • San Antonio, TX. Provided a Master Landscape Architecture Plan and labor—130 employees strong—for a teaching garden plot to enhance the San Antonio Food Bank's ability to educate people on square-foot gardening.

  • Atlanta, GA. 60 employees supported the Villages at Carver Family YMCA and Slater Elementary School to embrace their urban agriculture movement and build above-ground gardens.

  • Newark, NJ. Continued commitment to the community through education of sustainability principles, and donation and installation of solar panels for the Newark School District science program.

  • Hyderabad, India. Employees committed to supporting a local orphanage and home for disadvantaged girls. The Ayusha Nilayam home and Integrated Development Society were recipients of computers and educational materials. Employees regularly visit to teach computer skills.

Patrick G. McCann, WESTON president and chief executive officer, commented, "As one of our core values, Making a Difference has meant more than ever the past few years. We challenged our global workforce to make a difference with 30 volunteer events in 30 days; giving back to our communities. What resulted—60 events in 30 days—was amazing! Our employees truly are committed to helping others, and it's extremely humbling to me to see the effects of our collaborative efforts."
