WESTON Recognized with 2009 Environmental Business Journal and Climate Change Business Journal Achievement Awards

WEST CHESTER, PA — February 3, 2010 – The Environmental Business Journal (EBJ) and the Climate Change Business Journal (CCBJ) have awarded Weston Solutions, Inc. (WESTON®) 2009 Business Achievement Awards for projects incorporating sustainable cleanup solutions and sustainability principles.

Project Merit: Remediation/Waste Management acclaim was awarded by EBJ for the safe implementation of a sustainable cleanup solution at G-Street Salvage Yard Superfund Site at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland. The complex project involved the remediation of industrial chemical contamination while addressing the complications of potential munitions and explosives of concern and chemical warfare materiel using extensive precautions to safeguard project personnel and the public. In addition, the team’s approach reduced waste generated by approximately 1,700 cubic yards, reduced hazardous waste disposed off site by 700 cubic yards, and saved 75 trees compared with traditional excavation approaches.

Project Merit: Green Building acclaim was awarded by CCBJ for incorporating sustainability principles into a property revitalization project now home to the firm’s Concord, NH regional office. WESTON transformed a blighted property into a 21,000-square-foot, energy efficient green building that the firm anticipates will qualify for Gold certification under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program. Highlights include overall energy reduction of 40%; a GreenGrid® modular green roof and subsurface infiltration system to eliminate runoff; light tubes, large windows, and maximized building orientation to capture daylight; and a closed-loop geothermal HVAC system.

“I am honored by our selection,” stated Patrick G. McCann, WESTON President and Chief Executive Officer. “What is even more gratifying is that our teams achieved their goals using sustainable, safe approaches in line with our core values. We look to replicate our green building success in Denver and other WESTON office locations.”

This is WESTON’s fifth consecutive year receiving recognition from EBJ with a total of nine awards in the categories of Management Achievement, Project Merit and Technology Merit. This is CCBJ’s inaugural award year.

The 2009 Business Achievement Awards will be presented March 3, 2010 in a special ceremony at the 8th Annual Environmental Industry Summit in San Diego, CA.
