WESTON Earns LEED®-Gold Certification for Concord
Office Building
CONCORD, NH — June 3,
2010 – Weston Solutions, Inc. (WESTON®)
today celebrated the dedication of its new regional headquarters
at 45 Constitution Avenue, in the Horseshoe Pond Redevelopment
corridor. The facility is the first LEED®-Gold certified professional
office building in Concord, demonstrating WESTON’s commitment
to sustainable green building and redevelopment practices.
Honored
guests included Mayor James Bouley, City of Concord, New Hampshire
and representatives from the New Hampshire Department of Environmental
Services and U.S. EPA Region 1.
Mayor Bouley stated, “I’d
like to thank Weston Solutions for returning to Concord and
building this impressive facility. They’ve eliminated a blighted
structure, and ultimately constructed a beautiful, environmentally-sensitive
office building. They are already making a difference.”
Developed
by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), the Leadership
in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) program provides
a nationally accepted set of standards for environmentally sustainable
buildings. WESTON’s building was designed and constructed
with an integrated approach to permit using highly efficient, durable,
and regionally available technologies and systems without incurring
significant cost. The building systems are automated to allow regular
adjustments and long-term performance monitoring.
According to
Patrick G. McCann, WESTON president and chief executive officer, “WESTON
is committed to restoring impaired properties or brownfield sites
into productive assets. Our Concord building is an impressive
project that blends innovative green development strategies with
sustainable solutions. By joining with the City of Concord, our
project team partners, and the community, we revitalized an impaired
property in a collaborative manner and provided educational outreach
for stakeholders.”
Tours of the building highlighted sustainable
and educational features, including a touchscreen display and
user interface that monitors the building’s mechanical systems
and energy consumption. Guides discussed WESTON’s integrated
approach to low impact development; the lifecycle value of
the geothermal heating and cooling system; protocols for green
deconstruction and salvage; and the many benefits of the GreenGrid® vegetated
roof system.
WESTON thanked the project stakeholders for their
contributions and made donations in their honor for replanting
trees in Plumas National Forest. Also, on June 4, 2010, WESTON
employees will demonstrate their core value of making a difference
by cleaning up a section of the New Hampshire Heritage Trail
at nearby Horseshoe Pond.
