WESTON Wins Project Achievement Award for Outstanding
Construction Management
CHATSWORTH, CA — May 6,
2010 – The Southern California Chapter of the
Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) has named Weston
Solutions, Inc. (WESTON®)
as a winner of its prestigious 2010 Project Achievement Award – Outstanding
Construction Management ($50 million - $100 million category).
WESTON was recognized for its role as construction manager for
the large-scale soil remediation project at Pier A West at the
Port of Long Beach in California.
This award acknowledges WESTON’s
project success at one of the largest seaports in the world. In
accordance with its Green Ports Initiative, the Port engaged WESTON
to manage the removal of over 400,000 tons of contaminated waste
materials and the treatment of over 2.5 million gallons of impacted
groundwater from the 123-acre Pier A West site.
This accelerated
remediation project was completed safely, efficiently, on budget
and ahead of schedule, meeting the Port’s contractual requirements
for achieving a $40 million cost reimbursement from the previous
site owner. As the Construction Manager, WESTON served as an extension
of the Port’s staff to integrate the needs of all of the
project’s stakeholders. Challenges the project team overcame
included complex ground water issues resulting from the site being
located below sea level, working in an active oilfield; coordinating
the removal of contaminated waste material with the simultaneous
import of clean fill; and minimizing the impact on nearby marina
residents while creating a sustainable solution that benefits the
environment and the community-at-large.
Patrick G. McCann, WESTON
President and CEO, commented, “While the award is a sincere
recognition by the construction industry for our work, it is also
a testament to how well our project team worked together to meet
the Port’s goals. I am very proud of how our team stepped
up to meet the challenges, keeping in constant communication with
our clients and the residents to solve any problems quickly.”

Newport Beach, and Walnut Creek, California, Weston is a global
