WESTON Wins Build America Award from Associated
General Contractors of America for 48-Acre Superfund Site Remediation
and Ecosystem Restoration
WEST CHESTER, PA — May 21,
2008 – Weston Solutions, Inc. (WESTON®)
was named a winner of the prestigious 2008 AON Build America
Award in the Environmental – New Construction category at the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of America 89th Annual National Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada on March 13, 2008. WESTON’s winning project for Phase II and Phase III Remedial Action work at the Atlas Tack Corporation Superfund Site in Fairhaven, MA is one of the largest superfund cleanup projects performed in the Northeast by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District (CENAE) in 2006 and 2007.
WESTON’s 15-month accelerated remedial action
project was completed safely, efficiently, under budget and on schedule.
Value-engineering and reuse solutions were proposed and implemented
to reduce transportation and disposal costs and provide a sustainable
wetland restoration solution that minimizes invasive species habitat
and increases the ecological value of the property. The restored creek
bed, salt marsh, wetland, and upland areas are located in the heart
of the Town of Fairhaven. The commercial portion of the property will
also become available for redevelopment in an area where commercial
land is at a premium.
Patrick G. McCann, WESTON President and CEO commented, “While
the award is a sincere recognition by our peers for our work, it is
also a testament to how well our integrated project team worked together
with the CENAE, USEPA Region 1, the Massachusetts Department of Environmental
Protection (MADEP), and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
(NOAA). I am very proud of how our team stepped up to meet the rigors
of the schedule and location, keeping in constant communication with
our clients to solve any problems quickly.”
