WESTON Wins $54M Department of State Design-Build Contract for American Institute in Taiwan

WEST CHESTER, PA — April 1, 2009 – Weston Solutions, Inc. (WESTON®) announced today the award of a $54.4 million design-build contract with the U.S. Department of State, Overseas Building Operations (OBO) to start work on the first phase of a new office complex to house the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT).

WESTON was selected for this contract based on its demonstrated experience with OBO and in delivering construction projects on schedule; its long history of sustainable design and construction in environments with challenging soil and water conservation issues; and the ability to integrate and deploy a team with proven experience in Taiwan to manage the myriad of regulatory, permitting and construction challenges. WESTON’s team includes The Benham Companies, LLC, as the project’s Lead Designer.

This first phase includes the clearing and grading of a 16-acre site in Taipei’s Neihu District, building a perimeter security system, vehicular and pedestrian access control facilities, recreational facilities, guard quarters, maintenance buildings and a two-story parking garage. The State Department plans to construct the main office building as a second phase to this project. When completed, this will be a Silver LEED and sustainable facility.

According to Patrick G. McCann, WESTON President and CEO, “This is WESTON’s second security-related design-build global project performed for the U.S. Department of State. The first was the renovation and expansion of the U.S. Embassy in Vilnius, Lithuania.” He continued, “We are honored by the trust our client has placed in us and look forward to working together to further the Department’s global platform with secure and sustainable facilities.”
