The Philadelphia Inquirer Features WESTON’s Mentoring Program in June 2002 Issue

Roy F. Weston, Inc. (now called Weston Solutions, Inc.) was featured in the June 06, 2002 issue of The Philadelphia Inquirer for the successful partnership WESTON® established with Charter Environmental Inc. in the Department of Defense’s Mentor-Protégé Program.  The Philadelphia Inquirer praised WESTON’s ability and willingness to create a mutually beneficial partnership with a smaller company, eventually enabling Charter Environmental to grow from 5 employees in 1999 to 55 in 2002, and from a revenue of $7.8 million at the start of the program to $38 million by 2001.  In 2002, WESTON and Charter Environmental were one of 11 winners of the Defense Department’s Nunn-Perry Award for the success of their Mentor-Protégé partnership.

Bruce A. Campbell, a project manager for WESTON and the Mentor-Protégé Program liaison, stated that a protégé partnership is great for small businesses and large business, in that the large business helps the small business attain more exposure, better business practices, and expansion; and the large business retains a trusted and loyal service provider in return.  Competition is not a great concern since both companies have their own specific areas of expertise.
