North Kitsap Herald Features Opening of WESTON’s Port Gamble Environmental Laboratory
In its July 27, 2005 issue, the North Kitsap Herald featured an article about the opening of WESTON’s new Port Gamble Environmental Laboratory in Port Gamble, Washington. The Herald included a glowing description of the facility and its purpose, as well as positive testimonies from several area residents and business owners that are excited for the laboratory to begin operations. Olympic Property Group President Jon Rose and his staff have been working for several years to attract tourism and business to the town. He believes that the opening of the WESTON facility will be the first step in a major revitalization of the area’s education-based themes such as arts, horticulture, and marine environment activities. He says “We are thrilled to have WESTON, not only for economic vitality. But what makes WESTON an exciting client of ours is they are a fit for Port Gamble’s future.” Rose is not the only person in Port Gamble that thinks so.
According to the North Kitsap Herald, several of Port Gamble’s store owners are excited about the opportunities that will come with the arrival of the new laboratory. Jan Robin, owner of the Ms. Beehavin’ Antiques store said, “I personally think it’s good karma for our town.” Best Friends Antiques owner Sheila Waters said, “It goes along with our restoration of the town. It’s bringing a different quality of people in town.”
WESTON has just opened the laboratory and office in the Kitsap County town of Port Gamble, and plans to use the facility to provide experimentally-based solutions to water resource and environmental problems. The office and lab will be run by WESTON employee Jack Word.
