WESTON Featured in CE News for Successfully Completing Site Remediation at Hazardous Paper Mill, Monroe, MI.
WESTON® was featured in the January 2005 issue of CE News for acting as principal civil engineer on a successful paper mill site remediation near the Raisin River in Monroe, MI.
Peter Masson, environmental quality analyst with the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, reported that WESTON completed the first phase of work successfully and $1 million under budget.
The State of Michigan contracted WESTON to perform the site remediation and restore the site to a safe condition after officials became aware of the potentially harmful effects posed to humans and animals in the area from lagoons and ditches thickly coated with PCB-contaminated fibrous pulp resulting from mill operations spanning approximately 8 decades.
Weston Solutions of Michigan hired a subcontractor, Metropolitan Enviromental Services (MES), to assist in the remediation effort. The team successfully performed an innovative and cost-effective three-step remediation process to dredge and dewater the hazardous material from the Raisin River.
