ENR Speaks with Vince Laino and Others About CIO Roles and Responsibilities
In its April 2004 issue, Engineering News-Record (ENR) spoke with Vince Laino, WESTON’s Chief Information and Financial Officer (CIFO), about the function and status of Information Technology (IT) teams in the corporate environment.
According to Laino, “The technology group had to prove to the rest of the senior management team that there is some real value generated [by technology]. Once that happened, frankly, the seat at the senior management table was kind of de facto; [IT is] an integral part of the planning process now.”
Laino was one of 11 executives with a CIO or equivalent title chosen to participate in a March 2004 roundtable to discuss technology management issues. In today’s business environment, CIOs and IT teams are at the center of an initiative to bring cost competitiveness, collaboration, innovation, and entrepreneurship together with senior management focuses and values.
While the CIO position is fairly new in most companies, executives are quickly accepting its importance in integrating business and communication systems and delivering value from technology.
