Sustainable Projects

The nature of our project work increasingly revolves around sustainability, but WESTON ensures that we integrate sustainability principles into project execution, regardless of its nature.  We have created a Greening Projects Initiative, which has the following elements:

• A quarterly Chief Operating Officer Greening Projects Award to recognize project teams that demonstrate the greatest advancement in integrating sustainability into project execution.

• A corporate Greening Projects Investment Fund that provides funding to project teams that have ideas for sustainble practices or technologies that they would like to implement but cannot be funded within a project's budget.

• A Greening Projects Intranet site that houses key resources, as well as a database of best practices for integrating sustainability into project execution.

• An on-the-spot award program for managers to award employees who come up with innovative greening projects ideas.

Sustainable Cost Benefits

• ReSolve and Barksdale AFB projects featured as profiles of green remediation on the EPA's Clean-Up Information site.

• Financing and implementing a 140-kw solar photovoltaics system to provide approximately 90% of the power for groundwater treatment pumps at a long-term remediation site.

• A sustainable site trailer that integrates photovoltaic and wind turbine power sources for recharging batteries and powering other field equipment in remote locations.

• Establishing a "Less Paper Initiative" on behalf of a client with extensive record-keeping needs, creating a searchable online database and recycling 1.3 tons of paper.

• Utilizing bio-diesel for field equipment and vehicles, as well as encouraging project-site carpooling to reduce vehicle-related impacts.

• Large-scale reuse opportunity during an emergency response and cleanup associated with tornadoes in Joplin, MO. Diverted over 380,000 cubic yards of material from disposal and created over 1.2 million bags of mulch.
