Sustainable Offices

WESTON is engaged in two distinct activities associated with our own high performance office spaces: Construction of new space by applying our own green design-build expertise and upgrading our existing leased space.

Construction of High Performance Buildings

  • Concord, NH - converted an environmentally impaired property to a LEED® Gold Certified office building, incorporating many sustainability design features, such as ground source heating and cooling, a GreenGrid® roof with drought-resistant, regional native plants, and on-site stormwater management features.

  • Denver, CO - designed and constructed an office building to house our Denver office (as well as other tenants), in conjunction with development of a light rail station (Transit-Oriented Development); the design has received LEED® Gold pre-certification and won the City of Lakewood’s (CO) prestigious Sustainability Award (2011).

Reduction in Environmental Footprint of Existing Spaces

WESTON has self-performed retrofits and upgrades to most of our other existing leased office spaces, including activities such as:

  • Executing streamlined energy audits to identify energy-saving potential.
  • Conducting greenhouse gas inventories for Tiers 1 and 2 emissions, resulting in our designation as a Climate Registered organization by The Climate Registry.
  • Performing on-going efforts to achieve LEED-EBOM certification.
  • Integrating sustainability criteria into the evaluation of all new property leases.
  • Purchasing renewable energy for electricity needs.
  • Implementing recycling programs at offices in regions where recycling is not provided by the landlord.

WESTON’s Chicago office won the Leadership in Tenant Excellence Award in the Chicago Green Office Challenge.  This program, a collaborative effort between the City of Chicago and the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI), evaluated about 150 companies in terms of energy and water use, waste management, transportation and outreach.  WESTON was one of 16 firms to place in the Top Tier performance category.
